Dr. Nina Gasparik-Küls

Nina graduated from the Veterinary University of Gießen, Germany in 2009 and subsequently worked in a busy mixed animal clinic in Northern Alberta, Canada for the following 1.5 years before applying for an internship in equine medicine at the Veterinary University of Vienna (VUW). During this internship she developed a special interest in anaesthesia. After another year as an assistant in the department for anaesthesiology and perioperative intensive care at the VUW she decided to pursue her passion for anaesthesia by enrolling into the ECVAA (European College for Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia) residency program at the Royal Dick School for Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh. In 2015 she returned to Vienna and passed her ECVAA exam after completion of her residency in 2017. For the following six years she remained at the VUW as a senior anaesthetist and lecturer, interrupted by a one year maternal leave during which she also finalized her doctoral thesis. In 2023, she stepped away from academia and into private practice and took over as head of anaesthesia at Austria’s largest private veterinary hospital, the Vetklinikum. Nina is passionate about all aspects of veterinary anaesthesia, but takes particular pleasure in the use of ultrasound guided local anaesthesia for painful interventions and the treatment of chronic pain as part of the pain clinic she has started at the Vetklinikum.
