Bianca Hettlich is a graduate from the veterinary college in Munich, Germany. She pursued postgraduate training in small animal surgery at Texas A&M University in the United States and obtained board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. She remained at Texas A&M for a total of 9 years before joining the small animal orthopedics team at the Ohio State University, where she received tenure with promotion to associate professor in 2014. In 2015, she moved back to Europe and joined the Vetsuisse Faculty in Bern, Switzerland, where she habilitated in the are of canine spine biomechanics. Since 2021, she is back in Germany and working as a small animal orthopedic and spine surgeon in private practice.

Dr. Hettlich is an internationally recognized spine researcher and speaker for learning events in spinal surgery. She is passionate about teaching and helping learners advance their surgical skills, in particular in spinal surgery. Dr. Hettlich is actively involved in European AO Vet educational events and has joined the AO Vet education commission in 2023. One of her recent key accomplishment is the successful implementation of the AO Vet Course in Advanced Techniques for Canine Spinal Stabilization in Europe.
