Martina “Ini” studied in Vienna and, following her graduation, spent the next 10 years helping establish the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Intensive Care Medicine at the Vetmeduni in Vienna. She completed her residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia through an alternative training program at the University of Bern, Switzerland, and Vienna. She is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA).
In 2007, she left Vienna to work as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UK. After 3 years in England, she returned to the continent, where she served for 6 years as a Oberarzt (Senior Lecturer) in Anaesthesia at the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich. In 2016, she relocated to Perth, Western Australia, to work as a lecturer and researcher in anaesthesia. Since February 2023, she has returned to the Vetmeduni Vienna as a Professor of Anaesthesia and Analgesia and Head of the Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Intensive Care Medicine group.
Her main focus is on new technologies to advance teaching of under- and postgraduate veterinarians. Her main research topics are lung ventilation, gas exchange, and monitoring lung function using Volumetric Capnography and Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT). She has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers.
