Prof. Dr. Gilles Dupré

Doctor in Veterinary Medicine

Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons

Doctor Honoris Causa

Diplomate thoracic surgery and thoracoscopy (human), Université Paris VII

Gilles Dupré graduated in France and did his surgical training both in France as assistant in the surgery department of the Vet. school and in the USA as resident in small animal surgery at Ohio State University. In France, Prof. Dupré with his partners developed the largest referral clinic, setting the path for specialization and referral practice in Europe. He created the first internships and residency programs and became a significant contributor to the development of veterinary specialization in Europe and in many other European countries. He became Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, in 1993.

In 2005, he was appointed by the veterinary medicine University of Vienna (Austria) as Head of the clinic for small animal surgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, physical therapy and rehabilitation. At the same time Prof. Dupré joined the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS) where he founded the surgical curriculum, bringing new knowledge to post-graduate students all over Europe and Asia. Prof. Dupré has been pronouncing thousands of lectures in academic and non-academic environments and was honoured as doctor honoris causa of the university of Cluj-Napocca in 2021. Beside heading several surgical departments, Prof. Dupré is the founder of many surgical techniques which are now applied worldwide as standard procedures. This is reflected through the publication of hundreds of articles and book chapters which became cornerstones of the development of small animal surgery.

Gilles Dupré is now back to his mother country where he is active as a surgeon and international lecturer. His teaching activities span all over Europe and beyond, in academic and non-academic environments, but also as guest-speaker for the most prestigious congresses, traveling the world to share his passion about surgery. Witnessing the very little offer of practical trainings for diplomates and specialists, Prof. Dupré decided to launch a new training institution called “Veteducation.vet”. The first advanced laparoscopic and advanced oncologic surgery trainings will happen in 2022 and 2023.
