About this course

Introductory words from the course director

In gastro-enterology, endoscopy holds a crucial role in differentiating various inflammatory diseases from neoplasms and/or degenerative disorders. Furthermore, the quality of biopsy samples can significantly impact the accuracy of histological diagnosis. In addition, numerous interventions can now be performed utilizing endoscopic techniques. With this in mind, this  masterclass has been designed to enhance the diagnostic and therapeutic skills of experienced endoscopists looking to broaden their scope of procedures.

The techniques covered in this course include narrow band imaging for precise biopsies, proper biopsy sampling for accurate histological evaluation, simple and complicated removal of foreign bodies in the esophagus and stomach, dilation and stenting of strictures in the esophagus and colon, placement of percutaneous endoscopic gastric (PEG) tubes, and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) using electrosurgery.

The course masters of this masterclass, Valérie Freiche, Edward Hall, and Thomas Spillmann, are renowned experts in canine and feline gastroenterology with extensive experience in diagnostic and interventional endoscopy. The masterclass begins with a lecture day to establish the necessary theoretical foundation, followed by two days of hands-on training to allow participants to practice using interventional endoscopy techniques for the benefit of their future canine and feline patients.

Prof. Thomas Spillmann, University of Helsinki (FIN)
