We are thrilled to invite you to attend the Module 3 “Advanced Surgical Oncology of the Abdomen”, happening in Vienna 12-14 December 2025! This course is designed for veterinary surgeons who want to refine their skills in complex abdominal oncologic procedures. Expect an engaging, hands-on, and interactive learning experience where you’ll dive deep into advanced surgical techniques and practical applications. Over these three days, we will mix in-depth discussions, case studies, and wet labs, all tailored to your level of expertise. No basic overviews here—just focused, high-level content to help you tackle the toughest surgical challenges with confidence.

For this course, three world-renowned oncologic surgeons are delighted to be your speakers: Professor Nick Bacon, Dr. Laurent Findji and Dr. Manuel Jimenez-Pelaez. They are great approachable speakers, passionate about sharing.

Aims/learning outcomes

Aims:

This module 3 shall help participants to refine their expertise in complex abdominal surgical oncology. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, this course aims to:

  • Deepen understanding of the biology, diagnosis, and surgical management of digestive, endocrine, and urogenital tumours in small animals.
  • Provide hands-on experience in performing advanced surgical techniques, including gastric and intestinal resections, prostatectomy, liver resections, adrenalectomies and cystectomies.
  • Foster an interactive and flexible learning environment, allowing participants to discuss with both peers and faculty complex cases, troubleshoot challenges, and refine decision-making skills.
  • Ensure immediate clinical applicability by practicing techniques on cadavers under close and personalised guidance.

 

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the grounds for performing abdominal cancer surgery appropriately, through a better knowledge of the biology of main abdominal tumours and the strength and limitations of surgery in their treatment.
  2. Navigate patient selection, preoperative planning, and intraoperative decision-making in the treatment of abdominal tumours
  3. Perform advanced surgical procedures such as gastrectomies (Billroth I & II), rectal pull-through, prostatectomy, cystectomies, liver resection, and adrenalectomy with cavotomy.
