I am thrilled to invite you to join us for the second residential module of our surgical oncology masterclasses! Our next stop is musculoskeletal tumours. This will include all sorts of bone tumours, of course, but not only: peripheral nervous and body wall tumours will also be covered. As always, the course will combine theoretical presentations and interactive sessions with wet-labs, providing everyone with the essential knowledge and practical skills to improve their practice.

Experts
For this course, I am delighted and honoured to team up with two amazing surgeons. Bernard Seguin is a major figure in veterinary surgical oncology, having worked in the most renowned universities in the US, having contributed countless publications to the literature and being the co-editor of the Veterinary Surgical Oncology textbook. He will be sharing his immense experience and particular expertise in musculoskeletal tumours, and I cannot wait to learn from him.
Manuel Jimenez Pelaez will be my other partner in crime. Those of you who participated in our first module on skin and subcutaneous tumours will know how incredible a surgeon Manuel is, both able to perform the most challenging procedures, open or minimally invasive, but also transfer the experience he gets from them to his audiences. The others will have to find out during the course!

Designed for veterinary specialists, residents and veterinarians well versed and experienced in surgery.
Aims/learning outcomes
This course will aim at taking your surgical oncological skills to the next level. It will give you the knowledge required for accurate decision-making, as well as practical skills applicable immediately in your practice. Bringing together an audience with a lot of experience, the course is naturally the opportunity for many discussions and exchanges, where all involved learn from everyone else, in a friendly and collegial way.
By the end of this 3-day course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand and Explain Tumour Biology
- Describe the biological behaviour of common bone, joint, muscle, and peripheral nerve sheath tumours
- Recognise tumour-specific characteristics that influence surgical decisions, including invasion patterns, metastatic potential, and recurrence risk
2. Develop Surgical Planning and Execution Skills
- Evaluate indications for various implant-less limb-sparing procedures, such as ulnectomies and scapulectomies, know their advantages and limitations and execute them
- Plan and perform large tumour resections of the pelvis and body walls by hemipelvectomy, chest and abdominal wall resections
- Have a clear understanding of limb-sparing options, know how to make a choice on a case-to-case basis and perform the procedure
- Plan and execute the resection of peripheral nerve sheath tumours invading the spinal canal
- Deal with challenging tumours of the extremities
